Colorado Wildlife Wonders at our Natural Spring

Abbie44

Nestled in the heart of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains, the natural spring that feeds Spring44 Distilling is not just a source of pristine water—it’s also a haven for local wildlife. Our distillery’s location (and our trail cams) offer a unique opportunity to observe some of the most majestic and intriguing animals that call this region home. Here’s a glimpse into the wildlife you might encounter near our spring - or at least on our social media pages!

Moose

Moose are among the largest and most impressive animals you might spot around the natural spring. These gentle giants are often found near water sources. Moose are known for their solitary nature and can sometimes be seen wading through shallow waters or browsing on aquatic vegetation.

Elk

Elk are another frequent visitor to the areas surrounding our spring. These elegant creatures are social animals, often found in herds, and can be seen grazing in meadows or wandering through the forest. Their distinctive bugling calls during the rutting season are a highlight for nature enthusiasts.

Deer
White-tailed and mule deer are common sights around the spring. These nimble and agile animals are well-adapted to the mountainous terrain. Their graceful movements and keen senses make them adept at navigating the forest and avoiding predators. Deer are often seen foraging for food, including grasses, shrubs, and fruits.

Marmots

Marmots are the playful and endearing inhabitants of the rocky slopes near the spring. These large ground squirrels are known for their distinctive whistles and their penchant for basking in the sun on rocky outcrops.

Black Bears

Black bears are a more elusive but awe-inspiring presence in the area. These powerful omnivores are known for their impressive size and strength. They can be seen foraging for berries, roots, and fish. They are also caught on our trail cams exploring the truck.

Robins

Robins are a delightful sight around the spring. These songbirds are known for their bright red breasts and their melodious songs that herald the arrival of spring. Every spring we find sweet robin eggs in nests in the shelter above our natural spring source.

Chicken

Ok, not real chickens. George (Chicken being his nickname) is the loyal cat companion to our owner, Jeff. Jeff and George often travel to the spring together to gather water and explore. Chicken likes to ride in the truck, climb trees, and bring Jeff surprises (aka dead mice).

Cheers to the wild wonders that inspire and enrich our journey at Spring44 Distilling!
